United Way of Northern California is a convener, direct service provider, & funder working to improve the quality of life in nine NorCal counties: Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama & Trinity.

Who We Are

United Way of Northern California is a leading nonprofit and thought leader that works to help Northern California residents build better lives. We do this by running and supporting programs focusing on the building blocks of a good life – health, education, housing, and financial stability. Our team is here for individuals and the community during public emergencies, disasters, or other crises.

We are part of United Way Worldwide - the world’s largest philanthropic network, with deep and enduring relationships across government, business, and nonprofit sectors. United Way Worldwide is engaged in nearly 1,100 communities in over 37 countries and territories, and covers 95% of the United States.

Each local branch operates autonomously; the local Board of Directors decides how money is raised and spent in each community.

Our vision is to enhance the quality of life in our community by mobilizing the desire and capacity of people to care for one another.

We are community-centered. We protect the well-being of our neighbors and environment by actively listening and collaborating within our local and regional community, our agency, and our state and federal governments. We collaborate with other organizations in everything we do. Because of this, we have the strength and backing to take on complex issues.
We meet the needs of our communities by taking a stand against racism and discrimination, embracing equity and diversity, and leading with empathy. We proceed with courage and integrity by finding enjoyment in the work and the people around us as stewards of the community. We believe in running toward the difficult problems facing our communities rather than running away from them.

United Way of Northern California is a registered 501c3 nonprofit. We are committed to operating ethically and transparently in everything we do. Every dollar raised by UWNC is spent in our nine-county service area.
